My MORE Half-Marathon Challenge, Week 25: Gadget Girl

This week Nancy is fueled by technology.

Did you know the 1999 film Inspector Gadget with Matthew Broderick was shot in Pittsburgh? So maybe it’s only natural that my half-marathon training in Pittsburgh has turned me gadget-obsessed. Of course, running technology can make even a novice feel a little more valid.

After 25 weeks, I’ve gone from clueless woman with a pedometer to serious trainee with a flashing light visibility running cap and expensive blister-free guarantee socks. This week I bought high tech running gloves with a built-in piece of fabric that can be secured over the fingers as a wind shield to keep out the chill. Who thinks up these things? And whoever you are, please keep ‘em coming. That’s right, I’m scouring running stores for solutions to every possible problem that might surface during the MORE HM. When MORE sent me the link to MapMyRun.com and the Wahoo sensor that would link to my iPhone, I knew I’d hit the big time because my techno teen AND my gym owner were impressed. With it, I could monitor my heart rate, log and upload workout data, and do a gazillion other things. It’ll probably take me until the 2012 HM to figure out all of the intricacies, but with my new waterproof iPhone pouch and special wind shield gloves, all I need now is a Nancy-cam attached to my flashing cap to inspire a movie sequel...Gadget Girl.
