Love him or loathe him—few people stand in the middle of this road—Bill Clinton is still the most intriguing power player around. Clinton, the latest installment in PBS’ American Experience (airs tonight on PBS at 9 p.m. ET) profiles of presidents, doesn’t flinch in presenting the high and low points of the Comeback Kid’s remarkable life. Raised in a household roiled by serial affairs and violence, Clinton “became adept at keeping secrets,” a commentator points out. One of those secrets, of course, almost did him in, leading to impeachment by the House and the humiliation of the wife whose support had been key to his success. An impressive group of old friends, foes and political insiders (James Carville, Joe Klein, Gail Sheehy, Dick Morris and Dee Dee Myers among them) provide insight into the “gorgeously handsome hick” who rose to the highest office in the land.
