Last week we learned that the official unemployment rate has dropped to 7.8 percent, its lowest level since January, 2009. The best part? For women, the unemployment rate is down to 7 percent. Our disproportionate gains probably stem from the fact that job growth has been particularly strong in the healthcare sector, where women tend to dominate. Still, “Women continue to lag behind men in the recovery overall due to public sector losses,” says the National Women’s Law Center.
