Sela Ward, star of TV’s Sisters and Once and Again as well as the new film The Stepfather, has long been one of Hollywood’s great beauties. She gave writer Johanna Schneller the scoop on how she stays looking so good:

1. No smoking, no sun
“I haven’t had the sun on my face since I was in my 20s. And my mother was a chain smoker, so I never smoke."

2. Force yourself to exercise

“When I was working all the time it was an external motivator. Now that I’m not working it’s really hard to make myself do it. I do yoga two or three times a week. I do the treadmill on an incline. And I have a trainer; we do bands and resistance stuff, a little bit of free weights. All of it is terrible.”

3. Don’t rule out surgery or injectibles
“When you start to look so much more tired than you feel, I don’t like that. It’s so unnecessary today. I love Botox. I have this deep crease here [between brows] that’s no longer there, it’s great. I’ve done Restylane here [corners of mouth]. One day I’ll get tired of all that and just fix everything. Though it scares me to death that I’ll look like a totally different person. That’s why I’ve never done my nose, even though I’ve broken it twice and it’s definitely prominent.”

4. Stick to a skin care regime
“I really love the science of skin care products. For a long time I’ve been using Dr. Daniel Yarosh’s DNA repair line, Remergent, which is great. Now I’m developing my own line, like everybody else and their mother. I’ll probably do seven products, but nothing’s official. I love business, so I think it will be fun for me.”
