'This Slut Votes': One Woman Advocates for Women's Reproductive Health Rights

by MORE.com • Editors

Jenna Soard, founder and spokesperson of My Body. My Business., is conducting a 30-day election-season project  that she says is intended to "point out the misogynistic attitudes of a lot of politicians, including some women, who believe women shouldn't have control over their bodies." In her video blog, above, she explains that her campaign was sparked by the controversy stirred up in April when TV commentator Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke, a third-year law student at Georgetown University, a "slut" for arguing that birth control should be covered by her employer's health insurance plan.

Soard's strategy is to hit the road and "talk to random strangers to get reactions to my shirt," which reads "This Slut Votes." She has questioned those she meets on their knowledge of U.S. laws about women's health rights and finds it "shocking how much people don't know."

Follow Soard here as she documents people's reactions to her shirt and conducts short interviews. (One of the more surprising places she chose to visit: Disneyland.)

While I'm aware of the number of bills that limit a woman's reproductive health choices in my state, (Oklahoma), I'm appalled at the amount of general ignorance displayed by men and women in regards to what their legislatures are doing. I applaud Jenna for being another person standing up to educate people!

I am so glad to see this article. I have been following "This Slut Votes" on Facebook. We need to see more articles like this one in the women's magazines. Women need to be informed about what is going on in the legislature. And stand up to men like Rush Limbaugh.

Thank you so much for helping spread the word! So many still don't know how very bad this has gotten... we have to get everyone to the polls this year!

Go Jenna Soard! We have loved what you're doing and followed your campaign since day one. If we are to win this war on women and the ceaseless attack on our rights, it will be in great part thanks to women just like you, willing to make a commitment to increasing awareness and mobilizing women and men everywhere to find their voice and use their vote to to stop the orchestrated attack from the right! So, keep rockin' and doing what you do best!
In solidarity!

I have been a strong supporter of Jenna and My Body My Business since I learned more about her cause and started working with her. I was shocked about how much I didn't know about my own health rights! Thanks Jenna for educating me and the rest of the ladies in the office!
