Diggin’ the short, punky new ’do Miley Cyrus is sporting? Or the rainbow of hues Katy Perry likes to rock? Or the frequent array of styles Rihanna works? Edgy hair isn’t just for 20-year-olds. The New York Times reports women in their forties and older are trading in their classic bobs for wild streaks and choppy cuts, saying buh-bye to blah locks.
London stylist Michael Van Clarke tells the newspaper he’s been getting requests for “crazy color flashes around the hairline, dip dyeing or unusual temporary color tones. It wasn’t us suggesting this. It was these very vibrant 50- and 60-year-olds who still want to compete, in a sense, with trendy young women.”
New York stylist Edward Tricomi tells the newspaper his salon’s older clients are “very progressive.”
“You have these 60-year-olds—my generation—who are healthy, going to the gym and feeling young,” he tells the Times. “I certainly don’t look like my uncles and aunts when they were that age. These women are living full and wonderful lives.”
Yep, life is too short for boring hair.
