Really, we needed a study to tell us being chained to our desks well past quitting time is depressing? Well, duh.
But at least you now have official research to discreetly dump in your boss’s inbox next time she’s out the door while you’re still slaving away. NPR reports the study looked at the health of workers in England who toiled 11 or more hours a day and found their risk of depression was twice that of their eight-hours-a-day peers.
The new news here, NPR points out, is that even if those employees putting in the crazy OT were making more money, it didn’t make them any happier.
It makes sense, really. Extra cash but no time to spend it? Totally depressing.
