Sorry to smash your pumpkins, but the Cinderella story really is just a fairy tale.
MSNBC reports an analysis by the Pew Charitable Trust’s Economic Mobility Project finds that a paltry 4 percent of Americans born into the lowest level of household incomes end up at the top level.
“The rags-to-riches story is more often found in Hollywood than in reality,” Pew’s Erin Currier tells the network.
Just as the poor don’t seem to get rich, the rich don’t seem to get poor. MSNBC notes that only 8 percent of those born into the wealthiest families end up poor.
