250,000 Have Signed Planned Parenthood Petition

Announcement by Susan G. Komen for a Cure spurs pleas for a reversal.

Upset about by this week’s announcement that Susan G. Komen for a Cure is cutting its funding for Planned Parenthood? Health providers, U.S. senators and plenty of other Americans are, too.

According to a press release from CREDO Action, Planned Parenthood’s largest corporate donor, more than 250,000 members of the organization have already signed a petition asking the breast-cancer charity to reverse its decision to stop funding breast-cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood clinics.

And in response to the Komen cuts, CREDO also states in the release that it will give $200,000 in grants to Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide.

“Caving to pressure from the radical right and defunding free breast cancer screenings for poor women at Planned Parenthood clinics is absolutely inconsistent with the Susan G. Komen foundation’s mission of doing everything in its power to fight breast cancer,” Becky Bond, political director of CREDO Action, says in the release. “It is appalling that Susan G. Komen would end its funding of a program that has benefited millions of women just because the health care provider is Planned Parenthood.”
