The word entrepreneur is from the French word entreprende which means to undertake. And that is what entrepreneurship is really all about—giving it a try. So it’s a wonder to me that more people don’t try entrepreneurship. With increased access to technology, it’s even easier today to start a business. Here are four ways you can take advantage of technology to become an entrepreneur:
1. Teach something via video, embed it using a blog and charge people a fee/subscription to view it —Technology needed: smartphone with a video camera or video recorder, YouTube, blogging platform like tumblr or WordPress, Paypal widget for your blog
2. Create a text-messaging service that teaches or reminds consumers about something important—like when to take a pill or birthday reminders —Technology needed: text-messaging service like Twilio
3. Develop an iPhone/iPad or Android App for a game, service or tool —Technology needed: an iPhone or Android phone, email, and a good guide for creative people with an app idea
4. Write ebooks —Technology needed: Word or PDF version of your book, a service that will convert your book into a mobi or epub file, and a distribution service like Amazon or Barnes & Noble to publish it
You don’t even have to quit your day job to get started. Why not give it a try?
