Berry favors body-hugging silhouettes for evening, and, with that body, who can blame her? The key to getting it right? Make sure your skin looks its best by exfoliating and moisturizing. What would ruin this look? Lots of jewelry that would overwhelm the dress.

Stefani wears a lot of black, and one of the reasons it works so well is that she chooses pieces with interesting shapes. What would ruin this look? Being too covered up—letting a little skin show keeps it light and fresh.

This A-list actress loves suits, and she wears them often. She gets it right by making sure everything is tailored perfectly so the fit is fabulous (which keeps it feminine). What would ruin this look? A jacket that’s over-sized—it would swallow up her body and look too masculine.

Her style is masculine—lots of jackets, button down shirts, vests and sneakers—and she gets the proportions exactly right. What would ruin this look? Too much make up would make it seem theatrical.

Smith is TINY, but she gets it right because she opts for colorful prints, and always controls the volume to show off her frame (here, the belt). What would ruin this look? Skinny pants—they’d make her upper body look too big. It’s the wide pants here that provide balance.

The former Will & Grace star uses plunging necklines to elongate her torso. What would ruin this look? Bright red lipstick—when opting for red clothes, keep make up and lips neutral.
