Fall Trend: The Nude Face
On the runways of: Gucci, Chloé, and Anna Sui
On you: "Nude, aka the natural look, is hard to pull off in real life because it can look drab," says Linda Cantello, international makeup artist for Giorgio Armani Cosmetics. To avoid this, our pros emphasize two key tips. First, "make the skin look flawless," says Pat McGrath, global design director for P&G Beauty. She advises slathering on a good moisturizer and topping it with complexion-flattering foundation (something with light-reflecting particles will help you feign luminosity). Second, don’t skip blush. Choose a pink or coral cream blush and apply it generously, says Mally Roncal, a celebrity makeup artist and QVC regular, who suggests bucking the old "Color the apple of your cheeks" tip and moving north to tap blush on the top of your cheekbone. "Your whole face will look lifted," she says. For eyes, taupes, peaches and soft browns are most becoming, and on the lips, creamy nudes with a touch of peach or pink are your best bets for scoring a look that’s "natural"-but not lifeless.
