In 1984, at the age of 44, I was watching "The Phil Donohue Show." The subject matter that day was about singles who wished they had a partner. Women in their late 30s who thought at this stage of their life that they would have a mate; women in their 40s to 60s who through death or divorce found themselves single again. At the time I had a word-processing business. When my husband came home from work, I told him about the show and told him I wanted to find partners for people who didn’t want to be single. My husband said, "You’re going to what!" When he realized I was serious, he became my greatest supporter. 114 people have married through my service (I’ve attended most of the weddings). Most of my married clients keep in touch with me though cards/e-mail. My husband and I socialize with some of the couples who met through me.
Some extraordinary, unusual circumstances occurred that enabled me to meet someone to match with one of my clients. 33 of my clients married people under these incredible coincidences. It makes me wonder if some people are "meant to be together." So many people, when they hear these stories, encourage me to write about them. Perhaps I need to reinvent myself again and become a writer because the stories are amazing. I reinvented myself from secretarial work to matchmaker. It has been an incredible journey, and I plan to continue this work as long as I am able to.
