This season’s loudtrends (orange lips! metallic eyes!) appear at first more lionthan lamb. But fear not. On the skin, even the boldestcolors are surprisingly sheer . . . and sweet. Our guess? You’ll gobaaa-ttyfor them.

Nails
Lively Lacquer

Spring polishes actually go on full strength (not sheer). But they’re rich—classic coral rather than bubblegum pink—so they’re still more adult than adolescent. Shown: OPI nail lacquer in Big Hair . . . Big Nails. Also try:OPI nail lacquer in Guy Meets Gal-veston ($8.50 each; opi.com).

Lips
Bright Done Right

In the tube, these lip colors
look Barbie-esque. But on, they’re more like tinted balm, giving your mouth a
pleasingly subtle pop of color. Shown: Chanel Rouge Coco Lipshine in Sari d’Eau ($32; chanel.com). Also try: Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Mega Melon ($15; clinique.com).

Cheeks
Rouge You Can Use

Like spring lip colors, the vivid cheek shades seen on runways have been sheered out for at-home application. Most formulas are creamy and buildable rather than opaque and powdery, allowing you to start with just a little and see how far you want to go. Shown: MAC Cremeblend Blush in So Sweet, So Easy (top) and MAC Cream Colour Base in Movie Star Red ($20, $17; maccosmetics.com).

Lashes
A Lighten-Up Tip

In a new take on colored mascara, formulas this sea-son are often double ended: black on one side and metallic (copper, gold or silver) on the other. Apply the black first, then coat just your lash tips with the metallic for an effect that’s sneakily brightening. Shown:Physicians FormulaEye Enhancing Mascara Duo ($11; drugstores). Also try: L’OrĂ©al Double Extend Mascara in Black Bronze ($11; drugstores).

Eyes
A Hint of Glint

Liquid liners in neutral metallic tones add a touch
of twinkle that needn’t be saved for evening. Swiped just along your upper lashes, they brighten the eye area in an understated way that’s appropriate 9 to 5. Pair with black or brown mascara. Shown:Stila Glitter Eye Liner in Kitten ($16; stilacosmetics.com). Also try: Laura Mercier Liquid Eye Liner in Gold Thread
($26; lauramercier.com).
