It’s not often I get to the mall—living in New York City is all about the shop-to-shop experience and not so much about the undercover shopping village experience. I’ll say this loud and clear: I LOVE a mall. It’s clean, temperature-controlled and spacious. I parked my car, ditched my coat in the trunk and enjoyed the beauty that is the Freehold Raceway Mall (in Freehold, New Jersey). There was much to see and buy, naturally. I scored a couple of bangles at Claire’s (wide, plastic, navy/red/yellow stripes), snapped up a mint green merino wool crewneck at J. Crew, and sipped one of the best iced coffees I’ve ever had, thanks to the little café attached to Nordstrom’s.
I also made a trip to the Gap, and this is what we need to discuss. There’s a new jean style in town, and it’s called the Sexy Boyfriend ($70; gap.com). It’s LOVE, I tell you, LOVE! They took the design sensibility of the boyfriend jean (baggy, distressed denim), but they slimmed the silhouette so as not to be so overwhelming (as in, too much fabric to deal with, which has been my problem with this particular style). The result is a winner. Cuff them at the ankles and pair with heels for a super stylish, very wearable look.
Go! Buy! Be Chic!
