We all get into style ruts, myself included. For years I wore jeans, silk blouses sand blazers and called it my uniform of choice. That was before my year-long love affair with dresses topped with cardigans, and after a decade of all black (I was new to New York city, so I felt it was the law).
My point, and I do have one, is that five years ago I vowed to mix it up. Regularly. I committed myself to combining colors in unexpected ways, to layering with abandon, to coordinating casual with dressy (cargo pants with beaded tops), and to sample all sorts of never-before-tried silhouettes. In short, I busted myself out of my self-imposed style rut, and it’s the best thing I ever did.
Mixing it up and pushing your fashion forward is the surest way to insure you are modern and up-to-date. That you are paying attention and taking part. That you care. This Spring, go for it. Add color, try a slouchy pant, consider a blazer in a skinny stripe and pair it with a floral blouse. You may even find the whole exercise freeing.
Go! Buy! Be chic!
