Deborah Lippmann enrolled in cosmetology school in Phoenix as a way to finance her career as a jazz singer. When her day job as a manicurist took off, she moved to New York City and began tending to the tips of top beauty and fashion editors. Editorials in top magazines and ad campaigns for Versace, Valentino, Balenciaga, Donna Karan and Zac Posen soon followed and Lippmann’s manicure chair was filled with the likes of Kate Winslet, Reese Witherspoon, Renee Zellweger and Penelope Cruz. After creating a signature nail color for Mariah Carey (a sheer silver beige called Satin Doll), she launched an eponymous line of polishes, plus specialty treatments for nails, hands and feet. Despite her busy career as a beauty professional and entrepreneur, she continues to sing. Here, a few of her must-haves:
I’ve heard it said that a woman’s hair is her power and now I believe that to be true. I can’t live without these hair extensions. I wear two colors: A dark brown and a golden brown. They're blended together to add highlight and dimension to my hair. My life wouldn't be the same without them. $600-1200; Click to buy
I never go anywhere without my Olio Lusso Face Oil. It has a beautiful scent and just feels divine. It's so emollient, yet non-greasy and a little goes a long way. I love it for travel and if I ever over-exfoliate or have a cold, it helps impart intensive moisture and heal my skin. $150; Click to buy
For the last year, this clean, sheer beige been my favorite nail lacquer. I feel that a nude-beige is a prettier way to go nude that a sheer pink, which we saw for so long. If I want to feel chic, French and sophisticated, I wear this nude-beige over a sheer pink. $16; Click to buy
My cuticle oil is another one of my absolute must-haves. Massaging the nails and cuticles regularly is good for nail growth, will get blood flowing to the surface for healthy nails and will create a rosy flush so nails look great with or without lacquer! $20; Click to buy
