If you’ve never tried a touch of animal print, you really need to give it a go. Setting aside the fact that it is, indeed, a classic pattern (really it is—look back, ladies in the 1940’s rocked it with regularity), it’s also surprisingly neutral (and, hence, looks great paired with brights).

Sure, sure, it can provide a one-way ticket to tackyville, and so my advice you is to avoid the following: all-over animal print, mixing two animal prints in one outfit and embellished animal print. And while I’m at it, let me just say I don’t love animal print when it’s done in chiffon fabric (sorry Mr. Cavali, and all you Housewives).

How it works best? Accessories. An animal print clutch? Love it. Animal print belt? Yes, please. Animal print flats? Now that’s what I’m talking about. Here’s a thought: Wear a pair of brightly hued jeans (cobalt, red, Kelly green, canary yellow—a huge Spring trend) and slip on a pair of leopard-print skimmers ($250; to go with. Bam!

Go! Buy! Be chic!
