I have been an unabashed fragrance whore my entire life. My beloved grandmother (Granny) wore Shalimar, and when I used to have once-monthly sleep overs at her house, she’d spritz the inside of my sleeping bag so I could smell it all night long. Delicious. I had a great aunt I worshipped, and she wore Estee Lauder’s Youth Dew. To this day I think of her when I get a whiff of the spicy sweet amber-colored liquid, and I love that my nose takes me right down memory lane.

Me, I always wanted to have a signature scent, but I realized early on that I’m far too fickle. I’ve worn so many different fragrances over the years, and even today I have no fewer than six bottles in regular rotation. The only perfume I’ve worn on and off my entire life is Chanel No. 19. I don’t even remember how or when I first got a bottle—some time in high school—but I have always adored it and I still do (for the record, I’m wearing it at this moment). My love for 19 is many fold (it’s not too sweet, it’s good any time of year, it works day and night) but what I love best of all is that is was Coco’s signature scent (she gave it the number 19 to commemorate her August 19th birthday). And by God, that’s about the highest stamp of chic approval on the planet.

News you can use: This May, the Chanel No 19 scent will be available in body lotion and bath gel, as well as in a limited edition body cream. Recently I gave the new products a test run and I’m sold. Perfect individually, perfect for layering. I don’t mind telling you that I smell GREAT.

Go! Buy! Be chic!
