At Almost 90, Pierre Cardin Still Designing

The legendary fashion designer presented his new menswear collection in Paris

by Lesley Kennedy • Reporter

Anyone who believes fashion design is a young person’s game hasn’t met Pierre Cardin.

The Associated Press reports the uber-successful designer—who worked with the likes of Christian Dior and Elsa Schiaparelli in his youth, dressed the Beatles, brought high-end style to Communist China and created the menswear shows in Paris some 60 years ago—is back. And the man who will be 90 next week (90!) can still rock the catwalk.

According to the news service, Cardin’s menswear collection, the first he’s shown in quite a few years, featured the space-age styles he’s known for (think neoprene jackets and no-collar suits).

“I was the youngest couturier in Paris when I started, and now I’m the oldest,” he tells the AP. “It’s extraordinary I’m still here!”

Birthday cheers to that!
