OMG! ‘Fifty Shades’ Replaces Bibles at English Hotel

The erotic best seller is the new nightstand staple at this inn

by Lesley Kennedy • Reporter

Oh, to be a fly on the wall the next time a God-fearing guest opens her hotel nightstand drawer in search of a Bible, only to be greeted with Fifty Shades of Grey.

Lord have mercy!

NBC News reports the Damson Dene Hotel in England has swapped the Good Book for the erotic best seller in its rooms. Owner Jonathan Denby called the practice of stocking hotel bedrooms with Bibles “wholly inappropriate” in a secular society.

“I was thinking originally of putting in a book by Ayn Rand. Atlas Shrugged was my first thought,” he tells the network. “[But] because everybody is reading Fifty Shades of Grey, we thought it would be a hospitable thing to do, to have this available for our guests, especially if some of them were a little bit shy about buying it because of its reputation.”

Denby tells NBC that Bibles are still available at the front desk.

“We’re not disposing of the books,” he tells the network. “We’re keeping them, and if people want to borrow them, then they’re very welcome to.”

We can’t help but wonder, WWCGD? (What would Christian Grey do?)
