There’s a big fall trend that’s all over the store racks, and we need to discuss. I’m speaking of polka dots, naturally, a motif that’ll be on everything from dresses to pants to coats.

My advice? Skip it. I love patterns as much as the next person, but at a certain age (say, over 35) splattering a bunch of symmetrical dots across your body will do you no favors. Feel you MUST indulge? Try it on a scarf, a shoe, a clutch. You’ll thank me later.

Instead, go for another fall trend: plaid. I’ve seen it everywhere, in every color imaginable, and designers have done their best to take the lumber jack-ness out of it. Plaid is bold, crisp and grown up, traditional but not stuffy.

Go! Buy! Be Chic!
