Spring Makeup Forecast: Candy Colors

Color yourself gorgeous with these confection-inspired hues for nails, eyes, and your vanity

Citrus Nails

After a neutral trend that favored putty and charcoal polish, bright hues are back. Not to worry, though. The colors hitting stores this season are definitely cheerful but subdued enough to be reasonably sophisticated (as in no neons). If you’re feeling playful, try alternating the juicy shades—one pink toenail, then a green, etc.—for a Lilly Pulitzer–inspired pedicure.

A Better Way to Wear Blue

While some '80's relics don't seem modern (RIP shoulder pads), blue eye makeup is enjoying a pretty revival. "Blue wakes up your face," says Sarah Lucero, Stila's global creative director. For a current look, she says, apply both black and blue liners—the black on your top lash line and a thin line of blue just above.

The felt tip of Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Liner in Periwinkle ($20; ulta.com) creates a precise line.

Estée Lauder Kajal Eyeliner Duo in Black/Blue ($23; esteelauder.com) takes the guesswork out of pairing.

Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner in Cobalt ($22; lauramercier.com) pops on darker skin.

Beauty and the Box

We have something in common with Leslie Blodgett, executive chairman of Bare Escentuals: an obsession with Jonathan Adler’s quirky home decor. “His super-fresh aesthetic made me a fan years ago,” Blodgett says of the interior design guru. Us, too. But while we’re content to dot our sofas with Adler’s needlepoint pillows, Blodgett proposed a collaboration. This spring Bare Escentuals will offer an Adler-designed lacquered set consisting of a box, bareMinerals’ mineral foundation and a brush ($60; sephora.com).
