When you’re marrying Mark Zuckerberg—you know him, the gazillionaire behind Facebook—folks probably expect you to don some one-of-a-kind haute couture wedding gown fresh off the Parisian runways.

But not Priscilla Chan. No, the recent med-school grad, 27, chose to wear a lovely off-the-rack Claire Pettibone gown (cost: $4,700) at the couple’s recent nuptials. The 28-year-old groom, by the way, swapped his trademark hoodie for a simple dark suit.

Blog Buzzfeed Shift caught up with Pettibone, who says she was as surprised as everyone else to learn that the couple got married and that Chan wore her lacy design.

“I love that she chose that dress. I think it’s perfect for her,” Pettibone tells the blog. “It has an understated quality that suited the intimacy of the event, but it still had detail and sparkle and beautiful elements about it. She’s educated and independent and chose something, I feel, that really suited her and her personality. That’s a trend that’s just really gaining momentum—women are getting married a little older, they’re more independent and really making choices about their dress and how it expresses who they are more than they used to, when it was a little more about pleasing everyone else.”

The dress, however, did seem to please plenty. NBC reports that a photo of the bride and groom garnered more than 400,000 Facebook “likes” within hours of Zuckerberg’s posting it.
