Decode Your Dining Style

Can dining style predict one’s performance between the sheets?

Babe Scott, author of Delicious Dating: The Single Girl’s Guide to Decoding Men by Their Wining and Dining Style, thinks so.  In her new book she writes, “Dining together is the primary way we connect with each other. It’s a prelude to seduction and a mirror of our lovemaking styles: the one appetite both simulating and stimulating the other. “

After breaking up with a fiancé who preferred “McMeals” to the finer art of dining out, Scott left her native Australia and set out for New York. It was there she began the research for her book: breaking bread with over 100 men and interviewing more than 200 of them to uncover the meaning behind our dining customs.  Here, she divulges a few dos and don’ts to make sure your next romantic meal is as successful as it can be.

Do identify if he is your “dining” type.  Scott writes, “Every meal is a duet, one that sometimes hits exactly the right notes and other where your taste buds are wildly out of tune."  She breaks down 10 Male Dining Types— “Adventure Eaters,” “Low-Carb Cowboys,” “Gourmet Gigolos,” “Five-Star Men” and “Food Sensualists"— to help you peg him in a heartbeat.

Don't inhale your meal faster than a boa constrictor.  And don’t speed through your date in record time. “Wining and dining is crucial to finding and fanning a true connection.  In our increasingly fast food culture of tacos and text messages, it’s important to slow down and get back to the basics that bind us.”

Do prepare for the date with a mental shopping list. Is he your perfect male dish? Consider whether he is a man who can satisfy your sensual appetites. Don’t be afraid to look for the man that fits the bill (and pays it too).

Don't interview your date as if they’re applying for a new job.  It’s all about making a connection over candles and cuisine rather than turning the date into an inquisition.

Do see if he wets your whistle—right at the table!  Be forewarned— if he’s not romantic on Valentine’s Day, then he is never going to be. If a guy makes an effort to please your palate at the table, than he will try and please you away from it. A man’s dining style is a window into his mating style.
