What if you were asked to give up sex—or blogging?
According to an on-line survey commissioned by Intel and polled by Harris Interactive of 2119 adults, 46 percent of women would give up intercourse for two weeks in exchange for having access to the Internet for the same period of time. The age of the women played a role in the survey. Fifty-two percent of women between 35-44 would give up blogging compared to 49 percent of those between the ages of 18-34.
While our partners will not be thrilled with the outcome of this survey, men are not immune from the “web disease” either. 39 percent of men between the ages of 35-44 would give up sex for two weeks and swap it for the Internet. Numbers decline to 23 percent for men between the ages of 18-34.
Intel is in the business of selling microprocessors that are built-in to our computers. Its motive behind this survey was to establish the importance of the Internet and everyone’s addiction to it, and not to provide insight into modern sexual behavior.
However, we have to face the fact that the results are not very sexy.
