For Rue McClanahan Fans, a ‘Golden’ Opportunity

The actress’s estate is selling everything from her costumes to her Medicare card

If you ever find yourself thanking Rue McClanahan for being a friend, you might spot some nuggets at the new website EstateofRue.com, which features memorabilia from the sassy Golden Girl’s estate.

We spied a hand-painted silk robe ($1,500) worn by the actress’s character, Blanche, on an episode of the hit show; white satin marabou mules ($500), also worn on the show; a ruby-red lip-shaped pin ($100); and even the dress, earrings and Emmy Award she won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1987 ($100,000).

A bit more curious are items such as McClanahan’s Medicare card ($300), a barbecue set ($400) and a signed script from the TV show Whoopi ($400). We’re guessing those are for seriously serious Golden Girls fans.

A portion of the sales from the site goes to some of McClanahan’s favorite charities. She died in 2010.

The best part is that this news gives us a reason to share our favorite Blanche quote of all time: “I swear, with God as my witness, I will never pick up another man! In a library . . . on a Saturday . . . unless he’s cute . . . and drives a nice car . . . Amen.”
