If you’re one of those people who prefer a little popcorn with your salt, you may find a grain of happiness in a new study out of Denmark.
CNN reports that researchers have found a steep reduction in sodium means a 2.5 percent increase in cholesterol levels—which can lead to heart disease.
But before you start shaking salt on everything you eat, the network adds that a number of experts say the report needs further analysis and studies need to be conducted over a longer time period.
“We eat a lot of sodium—way too much—and I don’t think it’s going to hurt anybody to lower sodium in the current American diet,” Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, a spokesperson for the American Heart Association, tells CNN.
As with most pleasurable things in life, the Danish researchers recommend eating sodium in “reasonable” moderation.
So we guess we’ll make today’s salted caramel hot chocolate kids’ size, huh?
