How many times have you thought this? “I'm tired of looking and feeling fat. Maybe talking about it publicly will keep me on track as I try to be more disciplined. Off to the gym.”
Thing is, going public for most of us is airing our weight-loss struggles with a few friends and family members. It’s a little different when you’re a United States senator.
But, CNN reports, that’s just what Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) tweeted to her 59,000 Twitter followers back in May before embarking on a plan that included eating healthy foods every three hours, doing lots of cardio and using Twitter to maintain accountability.
Five months later, McCaskill is down 50 pounds, according to the network.
Two of our fave tweets from the senator: from August 11, “Re: State Fair visit. Since I've been on this health kick I guess a funnel cake is out of the question?”; and from September 9, “It's official. I have divorced bread and pasta. I'm hoping someday we can be friends again.”
Note to self: Next time we’re dying for fried dough or craving a giant bowl of fettuccine, start typing in 140 character bytes.
