Retirement? What’s that?
Today’s seniors are still hard at work, with twice as many—7.5 percent—working now than in 1990, Bureau of Labor Statistics show, reports NPR.
And the unemployment rate for seniors is up too, with more and more seniors trying to find work, and even joining job-training programs offered by groups such as the Jewish Council for the Aging, the media outlet says.
“Prior to two years ago, almost never did I meet an older person coming in asking for services,” Kevin Ferguson, education director for a Washington, D.C.-area job-training volunteer organization, tells NPR. “They all need something right now to try to develop their skills because each and every one says, ‘I gotta go back to work.’ ”
