Skinny Jeans a Health Hazard?

Experts say tight pants can cause discomfort and even permanent leg damage

Ready for the latest skinny on wearing skinny jeans, Spanx or suck-you-in tight pants? They might make you look leaner, but they could be hazardous to your health.

It’s OK to exhale now.

“When you’re wearing skinny jeans to make yourself skinny, that’s not the point,” vascular surgeon Nicholas Morrissey tells CBS News. “. . . Clothing isn’t designed to give us a shape that we don’t have, and that’s where people get in trouble.”

The problem? (Besides walking like Frankenstein and needing a friend to assist during a trip to the powder room?) Well, there’s discomfort, heartburn and belching (attractive, eh?), but also meralgia paresthetica (numbness in the thigh), which could cause permanent damage if you experience it multiple times, according to the network.

Hey, designers, we have the next trend for you: sweatpants. With an elastic waistband. Really. Our thighs could use the relief.
