Here’s a diet tip we can fully get behind: Sleep more.
That’s right. USA Today reports a new study, published in the journal Sleep, finds those who get nine hours–plus of shut-eye nightly may be able to keep obesity genes from rearing their ugly heads.
“The less sleep you get, the more your genes contribute to how much you weigh,” neurologist and lead author Nathaniel Watson tells the newspaper. “The more sleep you get, the less your genes determine how much you weigh.”
According to USA Today, the researchers found that people who slept longer had lower BMIs and those who slept less had a greater genetic risk of higher BMIs.
As if we needed an excuse to keep hitting that snooze button.
