Why I'm Doing It

This is my first time doing a cleanse, so I was a bit apprehensive going into it. I always make coffee at home in the morning, and decided I wasn’t ready to give that up for the cleanse—baby steps.

Day 1

My first juice, Doctor Earth, was perfect for the morning. Not salty, but not sweet either, maybe a little tangy. The next few juices were a little sweet, so I decided to switch up the recommended order. I was feeling fine after my first two juices, so I decided to hold off on eating the matcha bowl and save it for dinner. Breakfast and dinner are my favorite meals of the day, so I came up with a good plan to get through the day: pretend I already ate breakfast and I’m just having a couple of smoothies for lunch. Dinner will be waiting for me when I get home. The "American Idol" season premiere is on, and the matcha bowl is just another tv dinner. Unfortunately I’ve never eaten a matcha bowl, so in fear of not liking it, I decided to change my order for tomorrow, which will include some saltier juice options, chia seed pudding and a kale Caesar salad.

The day went on—juice after juice—and my master plan seemed to be working. The juices were tasty and satisfying, and I wasn’t hungry. I was actually so full of juices that it became a chore to drink the next one. I was falling behind and had to catch up with the other MORE editors saying “You’re ONLY on Fountain of Youth?!?” By the time I got home, I still had the sixth juice and the matcha bowl. There was no way I could eat actual food let alone another juice, so I put the matcha bowl in the fridge and opted for the Good Weed drink.

Day 2

I woke up and started my day with another cup of coffee and some of the matcha bowl I didn’t eat from the first day. Half the matcha bowl really filled me up and I had a hard time getting through my first two juices. Even though I wasn't hungry, my body was craving actual food, so I had one half of the kale caesar salad I ordered, and gave the other half to another co-worker. It was delicious! I was a bit moody by the end of the day but wasn’t hungry at all. I only ate a few bites of my second food item, chia seed pudding, and still had two juices left when I went to bed.

Day 3

I once again started the day off with coffee, and ate the rest of my chia seed pudding from the day before. I was definitely craving food today more than any day, so I was glad to have the kale salad for lunch again. The rest of the day was pretty much the same. I ended up only eating a few bites of chia seed pudding, and had two juices left over before bed. Even though the day was over, I woke up Saturday morning wanting to continue the cleanse. I really think I could have easily lasted 5 days, and don’t think I felt the benefits after only 3 days.

Final Thoughts

I grew up eating healthy, but for the past few years, I have been eating pretty much whatever I want (in moderation, of course) and not getting enough of the vitamins and nutrients my body needs. I wanted to try the cleanse to start eating healthier, so I am happy to report that my diet has definitely improved, and I am more conscious of what I am eating.

Before the cleanse, there were days that I wouldn't eat a single fruit or vegetable, and now I make sure to include at the very least 1 or two servings per meal. I still drink coffee in the morning and afternoon, but more as a habit, not because I'm tired or don't have energy. I haven't really lost weight, but I usually stay the same regardless of what I eat, give or take a few pounds here and there. The cleanse has helped me kickstart a healthier diet – the diet my mother raised me on – and I plan on maintaining better eating habits, and hope to improve them as I get older.
