More about Stephanie von Hirschberg
It's fitting that part of my work here at More involves editing stories about women who have reinvented their lives because I've done a bit of that myself. I started my publishing career as a book editor, then I moved to magazines. Then I became an entrepreneur, running my own one-person literary agency for seven years So when I read stories about women who pursued a passion and went through a lot of ups and downs to build their business, I can relate. I joined More in July 2008 and I am really, really happy to be back in a staff job and working with a team of talented women.
I was born in South Africa, lived in Vienna and London as a child. I learned to read and write in French and German though, sadly, I'm no longer fluent in those languages. I spent my teenage years in Pretoria, South Africa, and, yes, I have an accent, though most people can't tell where it's from. I've been married nearly twenty years and we live 35 miles north of New York City with a cat and dog. On weekends I work with shelter dogs at my local spca.
At different stages in my life I've wanted to be: a ballerina, a translator, a music critic, a stage director, a teacher, a writer, a political activist, a Martha Graham dancer, a farmer, a dog trainer, a doggy day care provider.
