More about Allison Allen
I don’t do things by halves. Which isn’t always necessarily a good thing.
Forget my 50th birthday, I wanted my 50th YEAR to be memorable. I went on a 5 day backpacking trip deep into the Utah wilderness and learned I can go without a shower and clean hair for that long. I decided to learn how to play bass guitar. Well, I live in Austin Texas, the Live Music Capitol of the World, OK? With a friend, I bought a house out in the tiny West Texas modern art town of Marfa, Texas. I know, West Texas and modern art....doesn’t really go together does it? Oh, but it does! I played Crazy Little Thing by Queen on my bass on my 50th birthday at my first student showcase performance.
Oh yeah, and I quit my job to start WomenBloom, threw away as much of my stuff as possible, put the rest in storage, rented out my darling little bungalow and moved in to houseshare with a perfect stranger. A year and a half later, WomenBloom is well under way, my housemate and I have become like sisters, I rented my house out for another 18 months because I wasn’t ready to go back home, and I'm still living in Anita’s fabulous house with my dog, my computer, a bed, a few books and my clothes.
Through WomenBloom, I get to meet THE most amazing women and hear their story. I get to do the things I love. I play bass when I feel like it. I am constantly on a steep learning curve. And, I don’t have to mow the yard.
It’s a deliciously light feeling this.
