The big midlife stretch for me right now is writing a novel.  Not something I ever thought I'd do, and to my surprise, it's hugely fun.  These are decades of exploring and growing from a comfortable base -- at last, we know who we are.  Taking three midlife characters on a journey in the book feels like I'm making my own life bigger too.
     I have plenty of experience editing and writing, just never fiction.  I've worked at magazines for 30 years, most recently as editor-in-chief of MORE.  I left the best job on the planet (I think Lesley will confirm this!) 5 years ago to have a different kind of life, writing for a living.  I call it one third the money, three times the fun.  Making myself do challenging new things like write a novel is what it's all about.
