More about Roxana Robinson
I'm a novelist, essayist, short-story writer and biographer. I'm the author of eight books: four novels, Cost, Sweetwater, This is My Daughter, and Summer Light.

Also three collections of short stories: A Perfect Stranger, Asking for Love, and A Glimpse of Scarlet.
I've also written about American painting, and am the author of the biography Georgia O'Keeffe: A Life. I write, too, about the environment, gardening and the natural world. My work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper's, The New York Times, More and elsewhere.

I was born in Kentucky, grew up in Pennsylvania, and now spend my time in New York City, Maine, and northwestern Connecticut.

My most recent book, Cost, is about a family coming to grips with some serious issues - the decline of the elderly parents, who are in their late eighties - the struggles of their daughter, who is a divorced mother, artist and college professor - and the heroin addiction of their grandson, who is in his twenties.

Cost was chosen one of the ten best books of the year by The Washington Post, and was an Editors' Choice by The New York Times. It was on the best books list of the Seattle Times, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal and Library Journal. It won the award for Fiction from the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.
