Bill Russell has always carried a sketchbook. He draws people, mostly. He interviews them about what they do and who they are. Drawing people and telling their story honors them.
Bill has been a freelance illustrator for magazines, books and newspapers for almost thirty years. He graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York. He was an adjunct professor in illustration at the California College of the Arts. Bill created a weekly panel of sketchbook journalism called the Bay Folk Sketchbook that appeared on the back of the Datebook section of the San Francisco Chronicle. Every month TODO magazine publishes his portrait of a different San Francisco cab driver.
