CARE is part of a global movement to empower women in the fight against poverty. CARE addresses the underlying causes of poverty through projects in sixty-six countries that advance education, improve health, increase economic opportunity, and meet emergency needs during and after disasters. We advocate for policies that protect human rights and promote the eradication of poverty. Last year, CARE programs improved the lives of more than fifty-five million people in Africa, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
CARE places special emphasis on working with women to create permanent social change. Women are at the heart of CARE’s community-based efforts because their empowerment can be a turning point for impoverished communities. As long as women struggle against oppression and injustice, families, communities, and societies will continue to fall short of their full potential. When women are empowered to realize their rights, they have the ability to transform families and communities.
