When Isidore and Joan Schwartz tied the knot 60 years ago, they spent their wedding night at the famed Waldorf-Astoria in New York for a now paltry $17.10: $16.80 for the room and 30 cents for a phone call.
To celebrate their anniversary, the New York Daily News reports, the couple stayed at the landmark hotel again . . . for $16.80. According to the newspaper, the Waldorf’s policy is to offer the original room rate to guests celebrating major events, and just two or three couples call in the deal annually.
“A kid coming from the Bronx, you go to the Waldorf?” Joan told the Daily News last week. “It’s an elegant place.”
We just hope they brought along their cell phones to avoid phone charges this time around.
