I got out of town this weekend and got the opportunity to do two of my favorite things — spend some time with some talented folks and see some gorgeous scenery. I hadn't seen the faces or places before. New faces, new places — the best way I know to recharge a low-battery or jumpstart one that’s completely out of juice. Fresh voices, fresh vistas, and a myriad of new delights. I always forget how marvelous it feels to be in that space and time. It reminds me of when I get new glasses. I’ve been wearing prescription optical enhancers since the second grade. My vision has changed many, many times since then, and every time I put on a new prescription for the first time, I am startled by the crispness and clarity of all that I behold. It’s hard to explain if you aren’t myopic, but all that you can see with glasses is all that you can see. You are completely unaware that others may see things more clearly than you do. But when the nice optician person places brand-new lenses on your nose and asks you, “how’s that?,” it’s a revelation. Everything’s sharper, clearer. “How could I have missed all that?” That’s how it felt this weekend. For a while now my eyes have rested on the same places and spaces. Suddenly, with a change in venue and circumstance, I could see things more clearly and in sharper focus. Sometimes to create a new you, all you need to find is a new view. “How’s that?”
