A woman has not moderated a presidential debate since 1992

Three teenage girls from New Jersey have shown that just because you’re not old enough to vote doesn’t mean you can’t make your voice heard.

The teens recently learned that a woman had not moderated a presidential debate since Carole Simpson did in 1992, CBS News reports. So they launched a petition on Change.org, asking the Commission on Presidential Debates to select a female moderator for one of the three showdowns this year.

More than 117,000 have already signed the online petition.

“Women’s voices need to be heard,” Sammi Siegal, 15, tells the network. “The main goal is to get people to realize that this is such a big issue and that women aren’t still completely equal.”

Hard to debate that.
