When bears attack in Alaska, they’d best not mess with this dog owner.

Apparently, Mama Grizzlies don’t just protect their babies—they stop at nothing to protect their little dogs, too.

Reuters reports Brooke Collins, 22, of Juneau, Alaska, punched a black bear right in the kisser to keep it from attacking her dachshund named Fudge.

“[The bear] had her kind of like when they eat salmon,” Collins tells the news service. “I was freaking out. I was screaming at it. My dog was screaming. I ran up to it . . . I just punched it right in the snout, and it let go.”

According to Reuters, the woman’s boyfriend scared the bear away, and the dog wasn’t seriously hurt.

We can’t say as much for the ego of the bear.
