Feeling Old? Blame Work Stress

Study finds on-the-job stress can lead to aging-related health issues

For those who have ever said, “This job will be the death of me,” sorry to tell you, but that job may be the death of you.

Well, it may not actually cause you to keel over in your cubicle, but, NBC News reports, a new study out of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health finds that job stress can seriously age a person, leading to health issues that include cancer, Parkinson’s, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

“I think that these results should be used when considering health hazards and workplace legislation,” lead author Kirsi Ahola tells the network. “Chronic work stress can become a health risk and should be prevented.”

So, boss, could we please pencil in a little meditation time before today’s staff meeting? All together now, “Ohhmmm.”
