“Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.”
- Margaret Young
If money, or the lack of it, is running your life and making your decisions for you, it’s time for you to make a shift.
By many standards, money is the measurement of life success, and people spend a lot of time chasing it down and forcing it to show up. Rather, if people understood what is occurring is a result of the meaning they attach to it, they could have a completely different experience.
People think that having money means everything from being happy to not having problems anymore to being more attractive to being more independent to proving they are worthy. These are big incentives that drive them to creating their lives around getting more money. At the same time, they could find that they’re not really having what they want, because money can’t give it to them. Money is none of what they’ve made it mean – it’s just money.
Even more, energy goes where attention is directed. If the energetic focus is on what they don’t have enough of (disguised as money), people are unconsciously repelling the money they want because their attention is on scarcity. They actually create the experience of continuous wanting because that is their focus. And by focusing on what they don’t have, judging themselves as imperfect for not having it, and then going after it even harder, they are creating a vicious energy cycle.
Energy is literal – it will go where the path of least resistance leads it, and energy doesn’t discern whether that’s positive or negative, for or against. If you are focusing on what you don’t have and/or need, you are creating that state of not having or needing even more tangibly.
In other words, your energy is quite literally your currency.
Think back to when you had a bad hair day… maybe you found yourself in unexpected traffic, got a call that had bad news, and you got a paper cut. You created those experiences as a result of your energy – it was low, and it attracted its vibrational match in terms of experiences. The same is true when you’ve had great days – the sun was shining, you got a surprise gift, you felt really good … everything just worked. That’s your high vibrational energy creating a positive day. Your energy, controlled by you, created your positive experience.
So what is your energy around money? How are you relating to your wealth? If you said your focus is on paying back debt, scrambling to just make the bills, or not having enough to do what you want, there is a lot of energy and focus on creating more of that. Remember, where your attention goes, energy flows (regardless of whether that’s positive for you or not)… that’s how you are creating your life experiences.
To shift your relationship with money on an energetic level, it’s essential that you generate the energy which matches your wealth desire. By changing the focus of your energy intentionally, you are creating an aligned shift with money and what it will do for you (which is the most important aspect, because it’s not the money that keeps you warm and dry – it’s the house that you buy with it). The energy is then both open to receiving and allowing the energy to flow in the path of least resistance toward what you want to have in your life.
Making the shift has five key stages:
1) knowing what you want,
2) expanding your perception about what is in terms of money,
3) ‘owning’ what you’ve created up until now (which empowers you to create what you want going forward),
4) clearing non-supporting beliefs, energies, and sabotaging gremlins (self-talk, behaviors, emotional triggers), and,
5) increasing your awareness about what comes in as a result of your shift.
