How to Make Your Own Cream Blush

You can easily repurpose a too-bright lipstick by using it as the base of your own homemade cream blush. It's an easy way to get more bang for your beauty buck!

Have an ultra-bright lipstick that you find yourself avoiding due to its electric hue? No need to let it go to waste. Use it to create your own DIY cream blush and lip stain, and you'll be reaching for it all the time!

Cream Blush Materials

All you need are two ingredients and a few tools you probably have on hand: a bright, pigmented cream lipstick (sheer formulas or glosses won't give you enough color), a non-serrated knife, a metal tablespoon, a candle and matches or a lighter, coconut oil and an empty cosmetic container.

  1. Cut off about half of the lipstick with a sharp, non-serrated knife. This way, you can still use the lipstick if you want but get double your money by creating a new product, too.
  2. Place your lipstick slice in a metal tablespoon and hold it about 2 inches above a lit candle. Slowly swirl the lipstick as it melts. Watch the lipstick carefully to avoid burning it, and don't melt it all the way.
  3. Add about a teaspoon of coconut oil and continue to swirl until the liquid is completely melted. Use a lip brush or toothpick to ensure that the ingredients are completely melted and mixed together.
  4. While the mixture is still warm, carefully pour it into the empty container. Let your product cool to solidify—you can place it in the refrigerator to speed things up.
  5. Now you can apply it to your cheeks—and even your lips—using your fingertips or a brush. You'll find the coconut oil moisturizes and adds a healthy glow too!
