5 Tips for Hair Growth

Remember when 'the lob' was the latest craze? Well, as it turns out, that super layered, shoulder-length style isn't right for everyone. So if you—like me—are trying to grow your locks back in time for beach hair season, now is the time. Here's how to do it.

Start with a healthy scalp
Most of us spend more time washing our hair, when it's actually the scalp that needs our love and attention. Take a few moments every day to brush your hair or give yourself scalp a massage: It will stimulate blood flow and oxygen to the scalp and stimulate hair growth. Voila!

Regular trims
I know it seems counterintuitive, but getting your hair trimmed makes your hair look healthy and fuller. Those nasty split ends lead to breakage, make your hair look sparse, and appear shorter. A regular trim is an important part of growing out your hair.

Protective products
We all know heat damages your hair. So before drying or using a flat or curling iron, use a heat-protector product first.

Deep conditioning treatments
Aside from making your hair feel like silk, a deep conditioning mask is also a great opportunity for some quality "me" time. Use a hair mask, such as the Kerastase Masquintense, every week to restore and strengthen the hair from any damage it endured during the week.

This tip is probably the most important: A healthy diet, enriched with iron and protein, will help the hair grow and enhance shine. After all, hair is made of keratin, which is a protein. You can take vitamins to promote healthy hair growth, including biotin, B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin E, but you can't make up for a poor diet. Eat right for healthy hair.
