The ’90s Butterfly Clip Trend Is Back, And It’s Totally Modernized

Studded hair was spotted on the Fendi Spring/Summer 2017 runway, and it reminds us of one of our favorite ’90s hair trends.

While 2016 brought back the iconic choker, backpacks, and grungy makeup, this year’s fashion week runways are proof that 2017 will also be about the ’90s. The Fendi Spring 2017 runway debuted models sporting a cool-girl version of our once favorite butterfly hair clips.

Stylist Sam McKnight gave these punk metallic accents a much-needed facelift, transforming them into funky, geometric shapes. Paired with various hairstyles from back in the day, the petite Lego-like clips proved to be the perfect hair accessory on the runway.

The look was complete with a dramatic cat eye, and salmon pink glitter lips — similar to the crystal lips the internet can’t get enough of.

The uncanny influence of ’90s hair and makeup was actually inspired by Wreck-it Ralph’s Vanellope von Schweetz. Yes, you read that right. According to Vogue, creative director Karl Lagerfeld wanted to add a “candy feeling” to the ensemble. And that’s exactly what he got.

Basically, studded hair, the sharpest cat eye, and glittering lips should be every ’90s girl’s new style goals.
