These might just be the best products for dry hair around.
I started quarantine with a bright copper bob that I dyed my hair for ahead of New York Fashion Week in the hopes of looking like Ariel, the Disney princess. Looking back, I have some regrets about this bold color choice but, hey, you’re only 23 once.
Being young and reckless, I used random drugstore products with cringe-worthy ingredients instead of properly caring for my high-maintenance hairdo. As a result, my hair became dry and damaged, kicking up small pieces of dandruff every time I brushed it. It was not a cute look, but the upshot of being quarantined in suburbia is that there was no one around who I needed to impress.
After staring in the mirror horrified one night, I decided it was time to change my ways and started investing in dry hair products that would restore my hair to its former splendor. Vegan beauty brand Authentic Beauty Concept reached out to me asking if I wanted to try its hydrating hair products, and the answer was yes, absolutely. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
In my pursuit of the ultimate dry hair remedy, I dropped all my typical hair products to try out Authentic Beauty Concept’s Hydrate Range. The collection includes the brand’s Hydrate Cleanser, Hydrate Conditioner, Hydrate Mask, and Hydrate Lotion — all formulated with mango and basil to hydrate and revitalize hair plus guar extract to make hair softer and shinier.
Right away, I loved how the sleek packaging was practically begging to be Instagrammed and that all the products are paraben- and silicone-free. Authentic Beauty Concept selects its ingredients mindfully, using plant-based formulations that are ideal for restoring hair that’s undergone one too many salon treatments. I had already cleaned-up my skincare routine, and now my haircare would receive a much-needed makeover, too.
Discovering the Best Dry Hair Remedy
Before my haircare transformation, I used whatever shampoos and conditioners happened to be lying around the house. I had never used hair lotions, hair masks, or leave-in conditioners, but that was all about to change. I asked celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak – whose clients include Emma Stone, Billie Eilish, Natalie Portman, Cara Delevingne, and Olivia Wilde – for her advice on fixing dry, damaged hair at home.
Roszak recommended using Authentic Beauty Concept’s Hydrate Mask and Hydrate Lotion because “both products deeply moisturize hair to bring back strength, bounce and shine.” She also stressed the importance of eating healthy and getting plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet, so I made sure to eat plenty of salmon, avocado, Brussels sprouts, tuna, yogurt, and pumpkin seeds as natural sources of omega-3s.
My new haircare routine consisted of washing my hair every other day using the Authentic Beauty Concept Hydrate Cleanser followed by the Authentic Beauty Concept Hydrate Conditioner. I quickly fell in love with both these products because they lathered on wonderfully, with lightweight formulas that left my hair feeling silky-smooth. After stepping out of the shower and towel-drying my hair, I applied a couple of dollops of the Authentic Beauty Concept Hydrate Lotion, massaging the formula deep into my dry scalp.
Once a week, I treated myself to the Authentic Beauty Concept Hydrate Mask, a deeply nourishing treatment I applied to my hair after shampooing and conditioning. I let the mask sit for exactly 10 minutes — setting a timer and leaving the shower so as to not waste water – then once the timer rang, I hopped back into the shower to rinse thoroughly.
Throughout the process, my mom kept complimenting me on how much thicker and healthier my hair looked. My hair felt healthier, too – the dandruff had vanished from my scalp and my strands felt significantly less brittle. I used to wear baseball caps almost every day to conceal my overgrown roots and dry scalp, but now I feel confident about the light brown balayage my hair has become.
Because I’ve realized how well these dry hair remedies work, I feel comfortable growing out my hair Rapunzel-style until quarantine is over. I’m my own hairstylist, and thanks to these dry hair products from Authentic Beauty Concept, I actually feel up to the task. Below, find the best products for dry hair in 2020. These haircare essentials are so good, they even earn a stamp of approval from Billie Eilish’s hairstylist.
