Get Bouncy, Beautiful Waves On Second (Or Third) Day Hair
by By Hilary Abrahamson
Want to get full, fabulous waves without the drama of washing, drying, and styling your hair? This tutorial is your answer.
Most girls would agree that any hairstyle that lets you go longer between washes is a hairstyle worth trying. The good news is that some things work even better on "dirty" strands—long-lasting curls being one of them. Styles can hold better when your mane has a little bit of natural oil to work with. This loose, bouncy wave is the perfect second-day hairstyle for people with medium to long locks, and hair that is naturally wavy, straight, or only curly-haired girls who rocked straightened hair the day before.
Follow these steps for perfect waves:
1. Spray dry shampoo at your roots and let it sit for a couple of minutes. If your locks are looking especially limp or greasy, take a towel and gently pat your hair to soak up excess oil.
2. Apply a heat protectant and texturizing spray.
3. Part your hair horizontally at the nape of your neck, working with about a 1-2" layer at a time. Make sure to curl in alternating directions and keep the bottom 1/2-1" of hair out of the iron. As you get toward the front of your face, stop curling in alternate directions and curl only away from your face. You will need a 1-2" iron depending on length, thickness, and your ability to hold a curl. Use a smaller iron for a tighter wave.
4. When you've finished curling, use a wide tooth comb to loosen your waves for the desired look. You can also tease the hair at the crown of your head for added volume. Spray lightly with flexible hairspray to finish.
And you're done! Go rock those flawless curls.
